AKA murder case postponed to February 2025 – Here’s the latest

The case involving the five men charged with the murder of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane has been postponed to 7 February 2025.

The accused appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 November.

New charges added against AKA murder suspects

Forbes and Motsoane were shot and killed in February 2023 outside a restaurant on Florida Road, Durban.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police, Forbes was the primary target, while Motsoane’s death was incidental. Seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the case—five are detained in Durban, while two are in Eswatini.

The suspects, identified as Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi (30), Lindani Zenzele Ndimande (35), Siyanda Eddie Myeza (21), Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni (36), and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande (29), face charges of:

  • Conspiracy to commit murder
  • Murder (Forbes)
  • Murder (Motsoane)
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Unlawful possession of ammunition
  • Five counts of attempted murder

The state has also added charges of money laundering to the case.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal, confirmed that the case was postponed following deliberations between the state and defense counsel. The indictment is expected to proceed on 7 February 2025.

Meanwhile, Malusi and Siyabonga Ndimande, two brothers arrested in Eswatini and implicated in AKA’s murder, are fighting extradition to South Africa.

After numerous delays, the Manzini Magistrates Court in Eswatini approved South Africa’s extradition application on 16 August.

Further arrests expected

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has indicated that more arrests are likely as the investigation unfolds.

“We are working closely with the NPA to follow all leads,” Mkhwanazi said. “The picture that is emerging behind the scenes is very interesting, and no stone will be left unturned.”

He added, “Once we identify everyone involved in this crime, no one will be spared. This case has shone a spotlight on our province, and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice.”

South Africans continue to watch as police and prosecutors work to uncover the full scope of the case and ensure accountability.
